SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES:

Coconut Wax We use a coconut wax blend. It is impossible to use 100% coconut wax since it is too soft for burning candles. Ours consists mostly of coconut wax and is fortified with natural vegetable waxes, which are 100% non-toxic.   We did a lot of research before ultimately choosing coconut wax for our candles. Many natural hand-poured candles use soy wax, but we found that the scent throw was not nearly as strong and the wax did not give the perfect finish we needed.  Although coconut wax is more expensive, it was worth it for us to pass on all those benefits to you! It's also the best for the environment (besides beeswax, which doesn't carry fragrance well) with sustainable practices in place to collect natural coconut wax. Even soy wax, which has been the preferred wax of boutique candle makers for years, has had some concerns raised recently, including deforestation in South America associated with an increase in soy demand.
Fragrance oils Our fragrance oils consist of both natural and high quality synthetic ingredients, including essential oils. We use phthalate-free fragrance oils, which means they are non-toxic to burn. Research has shown that phthalates may be harmful to one's health and may cause birth defects.  Solely using essential oils in candles is next to impossible as they do not give off enough scent throw when mixed with any kind of candle wax, so if you have been told that your scented candle is made solely with essentials oils, that is not true.
Wicks
We use both cotton core wicks and wooden wicks in our collections.  Our cotton wicks are fortified with vegetable oils and include a cotton core, which makes for a more even burn and is also better for the environment. Candles made outside the United States could be using lead core wicks, which were banned for use in the US in 2003.
Jars  All of our jars are glass and can be reused and repurposed! See our FAQ page for ideas on how to clean your jar and reuse it.  We ship our candles in reusable linen bags.
